The Aplington-Parkersburg summer sports teams were at Hudson Thursday in NICL-Central action. Both games were suspended in the early innings, with the baseball team leading 1-0 and the softball team trailing 2-0.
The Falcons will return to action in separate locations Friday. The baseball team will travel to AGWSR in a game that’ll air on 99 The Wave. The softball team will play at Denver.
The baseball team is seemingly picking up momentum as the regular season nears its end. Head Coach Brett Kleespies says batting leaders Preston Janssen and Sully Janssen have provided consistency that the team can count on.
“Preston Janssen is just seeing the ball well,” Kleespies says. “We moved him to the leadoff spot three weeks ago. Him and Sully, so it’s been fun to see Sully come along. He struggled a little bit last year, and Coach Hoff and I were talking the other night if we would have had these two Janssens that were swinging a bat like this last year with the team we had last year. We tried not to reminisce, but it’s nice to see those two come along and do what you know they’re capable of. And with Jackson Kleespies and Benny Waller, they’re playing good ball as well right now, too.”
Preston Janssen bats .431 and Sully Janssen bats .418 to lead offensively, including Sully Janssen’s Central-leading three home runs.
AGWSR will compete for the first time since dropping both games of a doubleheader to #8 (2A) Grundy Center Monday and will look to snap a nine-game losing streak.
The baseball game will start at 7:00 with pregame coverage at 6:45. The softball game will start at 5:00.
