Bulldogs heading to Webster City Monday

The Hampton-Dumont-CAL summer sports teams will play at Webster City Monday in North Central Conference action.

The baseball team will play a doubleheader, the second of which will be the conference finale. Separated by one game, the Bulldogs have a chance to jump the Lynx for fifth place. Head Coach Matt Lokenvitz.

“They’re kind of where we’re at, they’re one game better than we are in the conference, we’re both right there in the middle of the pack,” Lokenvitz says. “Anything can happen with that one. We’re going to go in, with our two senior pitchers that have been starting every game for us in the conference. Hopefully we can scratch away a couple of wins. It’s a good opportunity. We’ll try to get one or two more wins in that 3A bracket, with Humboldt being our only 3A win right now. But we’re playing much better, so I have confidence we’re going to go and compete, and we’ll see what happens.”

Seniors Jaxon Moats and Brody Robertson are scheduled for pitching starts, having combined to start nearly every conference game so far. They’ll be back in action for the first time since a 7-5 win over West Fork on Tuesday, June 24, because Thursday’s games against Saydel were cancelled. It’ll be the first games in a week for Webster City, which split a doubleheader with Clear Lake in their last action. Game 1 will start at 5:00.

The softball team has seven regular season games left, six of which are in conference play, meaning climbing from sixth place is a strong possibility. They’ll look to snap a six-game losing streak, having last competed in Friday’s 6-5 home loss to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The Lynx are at the bottom of the league standings. It’ll start at 7:30.
