The Aplington-Parkersburg softball had a frustrating night at the plate against Denver’s ace pitcher and fell 15-0 in four innings to the Cyclones in a Class 2A Region 7 first round game on Monday, as aired on 99 The Wave.
Denver, with a patient aggressiveness at the plate, answered free passes with RBI base hits to score 12 runs in the first inning. The Cyclones added three more runs in the second on Falcon errors to go up 15-0, and ended the game early in the fourth by the run margin rule. AP struck out 10 times and was limited to two base runners. Head Coach Travis Walker on rematch with Cyclones, two players that stepped up fill a need and offseason work.
“It was definitely a tough one, we were limping into this game with several injuries. I think Denver definitely proved they were the better team tonight. Even if we were healthy, I’m not sure we’ve got a good shot at them. They played well, hit the ball, put the ball in play and pitched it well,” says Walker. I do have a couple of kids that came out Ellie Reints and Zoey Uhlenhopp came out. We talked about it in the postgame huddle there, they saved the season for us. We had a couple of kids go down with injury. Those were two kids that came out, sacrificed a piece of their summer to come help us get us through this season. I got a chance I wanted to shout them out. You gotta play as much ball as you can, you gotta to pitch, you got to hit and you got to play defense. If our group wants to continue to improve at the softball level they’re going to have to spend a lot of time working on their game.”
Eva Walker in relief pitched 3.2 innings with three strikeouts.
AP has concluded their season at 3-22.
