The West Fork baseball team scored early and often in an 8-3 win over West Hancock in Class 1A District 4 first round game at Lake Mills on Monday.
West Fork set the tone with a three-run first inning. The Warhawks, while maintaining a shutout, added a run in the third to go up 4-0. The Eagles tightened the game, plating three runs in the top of the fifth, to cut their deficit to 4-3. The Warhawks regained some breathing room with two runs in the fifth and sixth to go up 8-3 and secure advancement.
Zander Hansen had five strikeouts and allowed two earned runs in 4.1 innings. Nolan Shreckengost worked 2.2 innings of scoreless ball with three strikeouts to close out the game. Hansen also had three RBIs to lead the Warhawks.
West Fork (11-10) will host St.Edmond in a district semifinal on Tuesday. The winner will advance to Saturday’s district final against either AGWSR or Wapsie Valley.
