The AGWSR softball team was outmatched against #11 (1A) Ankeny Christian, falling 15-0 in four innings in a 1A Region 8 quarterfinal Wednesday, as aired on 99 The Wave.

The Eagles strung together a potent offensive attack with two runs in the first inning and four in the second. They made their biggest mark with nine runs in the third, including a grand slam by Katie Quick and a three-run home run by Sicily Crosby. The Cougars needed to score at least five in the fourth inning to extend the game, but went down in order.

“We were missing some pitches there, struggling to throw strikes,” Head Coach Brock Holmgaard says. “And when we did throw a strike, it was right down the middle of the plate, belt high, and they made us pay. Katie Quick hit the grand slam, and then I can’t remember the shortstop, a three-run home run, so you take those swings off, and it’s kind of a different game.”

The Cougars were held without a hit and had one batter more than the minimum. Cali Buseman was hit by a pitch, and was the only baserunner in the game.

AGWSR’s season has ended at 9-24.
