The Hampton-Dumont-CAL softball team will go for a playoff upset when it visits #15 (3A) Center Point-Urbana for Thursday’s 3A Region 3 first round game. It’ll air on 104.9 KLMJ.
Coming off a 6-16 regular season where many underclassmen were tasked with varsity contributions, the Bulldogs will go for their first postseason win since 2023. Head Coach Kelsey Enslin says it’ll take the most crisp game of the year.
“Center Point-Urbana is going to be challenge,” Enslin says. “So for us to go in and get an upset, we’re definitely going to have to defensively make plays, be sharp. We talk about defensively, we want to be the aggressors. We’re not going to let them do things like just steal a base or be lackadaisical in any situation. And then you’re going to have to start to be offensive right from the beginning.”
The Bulldogs will look to cut down on errors while being aggressive offensively.
Center Point-Urbana won their final six regular season games. They’ve leaned on their pitching staff, whose 2.91 ERA is among the best in the WaMaC. They’ve won their last three first round playoff games.
Coverage will start at 6:40 p.m., followed by the first pitch at 7:00. The winner will advance to Saturday’s regional semifinal against either Clear Lake or Forest City.
