The Hampton-Dumont-CAL softball team was outmatched in Thursday’s 16-4, four-inning loss at #13 (3A) Center Point-Urbana in a 3A Region 3 first round game, as aired on 104.9 KLMJ.

The Bulldogs had two hits in the first inning, but the Stormin Pointers took control with eight runs in the first inning to set the tone. It included a three-run home run to begin the scoring. Hampton-Dumont-CAL committed errors, and several passed balls allowed runs to score, and CPU led by as many as 12-0 and 16-1. Despite the large deficit, the Bulldogs remained resilient and had RBIs in the third and fourth innings by Charlee Morton, Addison Aalbers and Maren Subbert.

“I knew they were really good hitting team, and we had talked about that,” Head Coach Kelsey Enslin-Vogel says. “In the first inning, we gave them that advantage, we hit a couple batters, we put some on base and then it puts a lot of pressure on our defense to make the plays. Then they had some spotty hits, like one up the middle that we couldn’t get, I think actually a couple up the middle we couldn’t get to, one over our shortstop, and then we had an opportunity, we made a couple errors on the on the field. We had talked about to come in and compete with these, guys we’re gonna have to play a pretty flawless game and be offensive. When we came out hitting right away, I was really happy with the top of the first inning. Mallory had a hard hit, Addie got on base. And just competing for that part, we really did a good job. And then just the bottom of the first inning kind of took the wind out of our sails just a little bit.”

Their season has ended at 6-17.
