Monday about 9:50am the Iowa State Patrol was called out on the report of a two vehicle accident in Buena Vista County along county road M-27, or northeast of Cherokee.

A 2020 Subaru Outback driven by 37-year-old Nicholas Seaburg of Popejoy was northbound on M-27, and was turning left into a parking lot, and failed to yield to a southbound semi-truck driven by 69-year-old Marlon Klein of Sheldon.

Klein’s semi struck the right side of the Subaru, and ejected the front seat passenger in Seaburg’s vehicle, 42-year-old Coree Keller of Popejoy, who was pronounced dead at the scene.  Seaburg and three juvenile passengers in the vehicle, two girls ages 11, 7, and a 5-year-old boy, were all injured.   The 11-year-old girl and the 5-year-old boy were transported to Sanford Children’s Hospital in Sioux Falls, while the 7-year-old female was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

All three juveniles are from Popejoy as well.

The semi-driver was not injured.
