Hardin Supervisors discuss members on an EMS Advisory Council

The Hardin County Board of Supervisors today reviewed a letter received from the Hardin County EMS Association that raised questions about the composition of the EMS Advisory Council.

The advisory council is mandated by Iowa Code, and EMS providers must have representation.  The current plan involves township trustees and mayors appointing delegates, ideally EMS staff, to ensure adequate EMS representation.  If each mayor or group of township trustees appoints one person, the council would have 26 members, adding 10 more EMS representatives would increase it to 36.

Concerns were raised about the manageability of a large council and the potential for extended meeting durations.

The Hardin County Board of Supervisors is open to adding more EMS representatives but emphasized the need for efficient progress, as a public vote will be taken on whether or not EMS should be considered as an essential service in the county.
