
The severe thunderstorms that struck the broadcast area last night had their beginnings in parts of South Dakota and Nebraska. After entering northwest Iowa, the storms produced winds of up to 99 miles per hour at Sioux Center, to 92 miles per hour at Orange City and Spencer, and to 79 miles per hour at Rock Rapids.
Tree and power line damage was reported in this area, and this continued as the strong winds moved east-southeast, reaching up to 80 miles per hour in Algona and Janesville, and to 78 miles per hour at the Waterloo Regional Airport.
Numerous trees and tree branches have been reported down, along with power lines, and even some power poles.
