At the National Whistleblower Day celebration on Capitol Hill Wednesday (Jul. 30), Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), a Butler County native, announced the reinstatement of FBI whistleblower Michael DeBey (bay)—marking the sixth whistleblower Grassley has helped restore this year.

Grassley, a longtime champion of whistleblower protections and co-chair of the Whistleblower Protection Caucus, delivered the event’s keynote address. He praised whistleblowers as “patriots” who play a vital role in exposing government waste, fraud, and abuse.

In a press release, Grassley’s staff says that throughout his career, he has led bipartisan efforts to strengthen whistleblower laws, including protections for federal employees, contractors, and those working in the private sector. Grassley also spotlighted recent legislative efforts to safeguard whistleblowers in emerging fields like artificial intelligence.

In his address, Grassley commented that “Whistleblowers are some of the bravest people out there,” adding. “I’ll continue to fight for you.”

Grassley has introduced the National Whistleblower Day resolution for 12 consecutive years.
