As August begins, Butler County REC is reminding residents to take safety and energy savings seriously. National Safe Digging Day on August 11 (8-1-1) encourages Iowans to call 811 before starting any digging projects, helping to prevent injuries and damage to underground utility lines.

In addition to outdoor safety, the cooperative is also sharing energy-saving tips as families prepare for the back-to-school season. Simple actions like adjusting the thermostat while kids are at school, unplugging devices not in use, and switching to LED lighting in study areas can lead to noticeable savings on monthly energy bills.

Butler County REC will also be at the Iowa State Fair from August 7–17 in the Rastetter 4-H Building, offering electric safety information and fun giveaways for kids.

Residents are encouraged to contact the REC with questions about safe digging or managing energy use this fall.
