The Allison City Council addressed several items during its regular meeting on July 28, including resident concerns about speeding on Main Street near Highway 3. A request was made to reduce the speed limit from 35 to 25 miles per hour. While no official action was taken, the council discussed the possible use of flashing speed limit signs and asked for more information about how many might be available for installation around town.
Council members also approved several infrastructure projects. Following a failure of the air conditioning unit at the EMS building, the council voted to replace both the air conditioner and furnace at a cost of $8,150. A $2,300 landscaping project around the city sign and a $4,500 water meter installation at the fire station were also approved.
A motion to raise the city administrator’s wage to $30 per hour failed due to a lack of a second. However, the council later approved a $2 per hour raise following discussion of certifications and responsibilities.
Additional business included updated procedures for building permits, including a new requirement for neighbor approval before permit approval.
