We’ve already heard political ads and stories taking shape for next year’s primaries and particularly Iowa’s gubernatorial and U.S. Senate races, but take heart—a more local kind of election right around the corner in Iowa. City and school elections are set for Tuesday, November 4th focusing on local offices like mayors, city councils, and school boards.
Candidate filing begins Monday, August 25, and runs through Thursday, September 18 at 5:00 p.m. City office candidates must file with their city clerk, while school board candidates file with their school board secretary. Some ballots may also include local measures. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on election day.
Absentee ballot requests start Tuesday, August 26, with mailing beginning October 15. The deadline to request a mailed ballot and to pre-register to vote is October 20.
