
The West Fork softball team made history during their second straight state tournament appearance, earning their first ever state tournament win and a fourth place finish. Leaders that helped propel the team during both trips to state included seniors Libby Trewin, Preslee Dickman and JoAnna Wallace. Head Coach Sadie Winfrey.
“They made a huge difference on this program and they’re going to be greatly missed. They showed great leadership to the underclassman. They have a lot of energy and drive. I hope that the girls were able to look up to that. I know that they for sure learned things from it,” says Winfrey. “They’re going to be hard to replace. I’m also excited for what’s to come and what everybody can kind of keep working hard for.”
Trewin and Wallace were each honored as IGCA Class 2A all-state first team selections. Dickman was honored as an IGCA Class 2A all-state second team selection. Trewin and Dickman were also recognized as members of the Class 2A state all-tournament team. Winfrey on the honors being part of each seniors farewell tour.
“It’s super exciting being seniors. Their last shot at it. They all really showed up and gave full effort for their team on their last go around at the tournament. That’s all I could really ask for. The smile on their faces, the excitement when they won that first game, it was just awesome to see. For them to get those honors was just the cherry on top of it.”
Trewin had a stellar final high school season in the circle, with 0.97 ERA, 267 strikeouts and pitched in every game. Trewin was also a power hitter with a .373 avg and 32 RBIs. Wallace was a threat on the basepaths with a team best .500 avg and 26 RBIs. Dickman had a .307 avg and 23 RBIs.
Trewin plans to continue her education and softball career at Kirkwood Community College. Wallace plans to continue her education and softball career at NIACC. Dickman plans to continue her education at NIACC this fall.
The Warhawks concluded their season at 23-8.
