An Allison woman was arrested Tuesday evening following a domestic-related incident. According to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, 46-year-old April Louisa Simkins was taken into custody around 7:45 p.m. at a residence on 250th Street near Allison.
Simkins was charged with domestic abuse assault, third or subsequent offense, and control of a firearm or offensive weapon by a felon. Authorities say the charges stem from a domestic situation and that Simkins, who is prohibited from possessing firearms due to a prior felony conviction, was found in possession of ammunition—resulting in the weapons-related charge.
Both charges are felonies under Iowa law. Simkins has since been released from custody.
