Hardin County has received $1,185,600 in funding from the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Set-aside Program. The grant will support paving the Iowa River’s Edge Trail from Gifford to Union, enhancing outdoor recreation and tourism opportunities in the county.

This funding is part of a statewide allocation of over $6.1 million approved by the Iowa Transportation Commission for five projects that improve multi-modal transportation and connectivity across Iowa. Other projects receiving support include trail and bridge improvements in Marshalltown, Waukee, Hiawatha, and Davenport.

The Transportation Alternatives Set-aside Program provides funds to cities, counties, school districts, and other organizations through an application process to help develop trails, pedestrian bridges, and other transportation enhancements with regional impact.
