Clarion-Goldfield-Dows has welcomed a new district activities director Brad Kahler as the 2025-26 school year nears its start. Kahler brings a wealth of experience in education and athletics to his new role.
“The biggest thing that’s helped me be successful in the AD world is I’ve done all the roles. I started coaching when I was 19 years old. I have a wealth of coaching experience as an assistant coach and then got to be the head baseball coach at Newton. They’re at the 4A level. That was a good experience,” says Kahler. “I’ve umpired. I’ve worked in concessions. I’ve been an assistant AD and then I’ve been AD. I just think all of my experiences have led me to this opportunity at C-G-D.”
He was the assistant AD at Newton from 2020-2022 and AD and Dean of Students at Glidden-Ralston from 2022-2025. Kahler on his vision for the program entering his first year.
“I’m a big team guy. When you look at all the successful programs, everybody’s pulling in the same direction, whether that’s from strength and agility or youth programs. When we’re all pulling in the same direction, we got the same mission, I think that we can really achieve our biggest goals. Being positive too. Times are a lot different than when I was in high school. I think that, sometimes people look at it as a bad thing, I view it as a good thing. I think being streamlined from top to bottom and all of us pulling in the same direction is gonna help us get to where we wanna be.”
Kahler on settling into his new home and support from fellow leadership.
“I think the size of school they are is a home run place you want to be. You have the small town feel, but you have all the activities. We’ve got some really awesome facilities and good people. I want to bring my expertise and give our kids the best school experience possible. I hope they want to come back to Clarion and enjoy that someday. Mr. Nelson, our new principal, Mr. Vorrie, and from the middle school Mr. Carter and elementary Ms. Rosendahl. It’ll be all hands on deck. They’re all great educators, all good people, and they’ve really shown that here during my first month on the job.”
Kahler replaced the retired Jeff Meyer. The first day of school will be Monday, August 25 and the first varsity athletic event under Kahler’s leadership will be the Iowa Falls-Alden Cross Country Invitational on Thursday, August 28.
