Tuesday, Hardin County authorities arrested 42-year-old Sherie Covington of Des Moines on a warrant for Failure to Appear and transported her to the Hardin County Jail in Eldora. Bond was set at $1,000 cash only, required in the defendant’s name.

Sheriff Dave McDaniel says the warrant stems from Covington failing to appear in court on an original charge of Domestic Abuse Assault. Under Iowa law, that charge involves intentionally or recklessly causing injury—or placing a family or household member in fear of immediate physical contact.

Missing a scheduled court appearance triggers a Failure to Appear warrant, which is typically treated as a simple misdemeanor but allows law enforcement to take the individual into custody immediately. Covington remains responsible for the original domestic abuse assault case, and her court date will be rescheduled following her arrest.
