The National Weather Service says scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible across much of central Iowa Friday, with the greatest chances during the afternoon and evening. Northern Iowa is under a Marginal Risk for severe weather, meaning isolated storms could produce damaging winds.
Storm chances continue into the weekend, especially along the Iowa–Minnesota border.
Forecasters also warn of dangerous heat. Temperatures in the 90s combined with humidity will push heat index values above 100 degrees. According to the Iowa Environmental Mesonet, dew points could reach the upper 70s, making conditions especially muggy.
The Weather Service says spotters may be needed in northern Iowa Friday.
