The Clarksville football team has entered preseason practices off three straight playoff appearances including a 6-4 run last season. Head Coach Darren Bohlen on core pieces back for this year’s team to build around.
“Nathan Moon was our starting quarterback last year. He had over 1,700 yards rushing. He worked extremely hard this offseason, put on 10 more pounds and got a little bit faster. He’s going to be solid for us,” says Bohlen. “Harley Barnett is a sophomore who’s going to step in for one of those two tight ends that we lost last year. He put on 15 pounds over the last year and he’s hit the weight room hard. We’ve got a good core group coming back. Dawson Barnett’s a four year starter and Kaiven Kielman’s a four-year starter.”
Moon put up 1,723 rushing yards and 29 total touchdowns (26 rushing and three passing), earning him all-district honors. Kielman stepped up on both sides of the ball, leading the team in tackles with 72.5 and rushed for 456 yards and eight touchdowns. Bohlen on the direction of practices to be ready for kickoff.
“The experience of our older group, getting our younger group up to speed that’s on scout team. We got to be able to give our varsity a good look and at the same time we got to go hard. Our younger guys need to know what they’re doing so that they can go fast, hard and not be timid. The big key is getting up to speed really quick, getting at game speed and increasing our intensity.”
Clarksville will kickoff the season at Edgewood-Colesburg on Friday, August 29.
