Mason City will officially open Iowa’s first world-class mountain bike park Thursday (Aug. 21) morning. The Prairie Rock Trails Bike Park sits next to Lime Creek Conservation Area and connects riders to more than 20 miles of trails and 600 acres of parkland. The 10-acre facility includes a kiddy track with paved paths, jumps and pump tracks for advanced riders, and picnic areas with public art for visitors who prefer a slower pace. Additional trails are planned later this year.
Built on the former North End Decker Packing Plant site, the park was funded in part by a $4.5 million Destination Iowa Grant. Officials expect Prairie Rock Trails to draw visitors from across the Midwest, boosting tourism and local business.
The dedication ceremony will be held Thursday, August 21st at 10 a.m.
