The newest member of the Hampton Police Department, Bo Brass, will complete his 16-week training at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy at Camp Dodge in Johnston later this year.

Brass, a 2015 Hampton-Dumont graduate, joined the police department in April after serving in the Air Force at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Tuscon, Arizona for four years.

“I left for Basic in March of 2021 and then between Basic and my tech school training that took about six months and then the last three and a half years of my contract I was stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Got a lot of good experiences there, met some really cool people. Summers were a bit brutal, but overall I really enjoyed my experience down there and I’m grateful that I did it.”

Since joining the Hampton Police Department, Brass has spent his time training with other members of the department as he prepares for classes at Camp Dodge next month.

“So when I was riding around with those guys throughout the different shifts that they were putting me on, was kind of a kind of like a field training, just to get a feel for how to interact with that way. I just have a little bit of an experience to help me further when I end up going down to the police academy here in September. That way I have somewhat of an idea what to expect when we’re going through the different drills and scenarios and stuff down there.”

Brass will complete his 16-week training at the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy at Camp Dodge in Johnston. Classes begin September 2nd and end in mid-December.
