It’s been a steamy summer across north central Iowa. As of August 20th, the official National Weather Service reporting station at the RadioOnTheGo studios in Hampton shows an average high this month of 82 degrees, with an average low of 63. The highest temperature so far in August has been 92 degrees reported on August 16th. Precipitation has totaled 2.62 inches so far in August.
This follows a broader summer trend of above-average temperatures and rainfall across Iowa, keeping the region hot and humid. The National Weather Service says Wednesday (8/20) will be another muggy one, with a chance for isolated thunderstorms.
The good news — a shift to cooler and drier weather is expected to arrive later this week, bringing some relief. Storm chances return Friday, and forecasters will monitor the potential for severe weather as the weekend approaches.
