The Belmond-Klemme athletics department has a shared vision for developing their student athletes to compete in a highly talented Top of Iowa Conference and beyond. Activities Director James Severson on how that vision is executed.

“From a weight room standpoint, we’ve had really good numbers all summer, with speed, agility and our weight program. The biggest thing with our coaches is they’re all on board and they’re all going in the same direction. It’s not just one sport, it’s not just one coach or one program. We are under the philosophy that they play all sports, so they’re our kids,” says Severson. “We need to not just get them ready for the most current season, but the next season and the season after that. All of our coaches are on board with that philosophy. I think it is going to show this fall, into the basketball season and hopefully beyond.”

Severson on a recent project to improve facilities.

“That was probably the biggest one that we’ve done over the summer. We re-surfaced our track, redid the pavement and the underlayment, then redid the track surface on top of that as well. That’s probably our biggest one that we’re doing. We’ve got some other small things, we’re working on, but redoing our track was huge for us. Staying with the six lanes, what our facility could fit. I think what we put out there is going be really, really nice.”

Belmond-Klemme’s first home athletic event of the season will be a volleyball match against Bishop Garrigan on Thursday, August 28.
