Last season the South Hardin football team reached the state 1A quarterfinal before losing to Dike-New Hartford, ending their season with a 9-2 record. Head Coach Nick Eller says last year’s success helped his team gain valuable experience which he hopes will pay off to success this season.
“I’m hoping it pays kind of forward to how our season goes this year. Gaining a lot of experience, getting to play a lot of really good quality teams, playing a lot of high pressure, tense games where I think that just gets you more comfortable with that. And I think it just gave a lot of our players experience and also just kind of gave us a mindset of wanting more.”
To prepare for another successful season, the Tigers have used a combination of work in the weight room, prospect camps, as well as 7-on-7 competitions.
As the Tigers enter preseason practices, they are beginning to sort through four to five position battles on both sides of the ball. Eller says he likes the look of his roster and is eager to see which players step up as the team puts on full pads and ramps up toward the start of the season.
South Hardin opens its season at home against West Marshall on August 29.
