North Iowa Area Community College has announced Jared Barnes as the new director of its Performing Arts and Leadership Series. Barnes, a lifelong North Iowa resident, is a Newman Catholic High School graduate and an NIACC music alumnus. He went on to earn a music education degree from Wartburg College and has spent the last 17 years teaching instrumental music to students in grades five through twelve.
Under his leadership, concert bands at Newman and Northwood-Kensett High Schools were chosen as the Class 1A Honor Band for the Iowa Bandmasters Association’s annual conference in 2011 and 2019. Barnes has also performed as a pianist, percussionist, and vocalist, directed numerous musical theater productions, and composed works performed nationally and internationally.
NIACC officials say Barnes will continue the series’ tradition of bringing exceptional performing arts and leadership events to the region.
