Clarion City Council Appointed New Council Member, Discussed Fire Department and Law Enforcement

The Clarion City Council Tuesday (August 19) appointed and swore in Elmarie Nel as a new council member. Nel will fill the seat vacated by Shayne Hennigar. The seat will be elected for the remaining two years of the term in November.

In other business, the council approved establishing a Housing Steering Committee for the Rural House Readiness Assessment Grant. They also approved a contract with Edmunds for accounting software.

The council received a presentation from the Clarion Volunteer Fire Department on their fundraising, equipment purchases and their number of fire calls this year. There was also discussion about the cost of a new fire station and different ways of executing the project. No further action was taken by the council. 

The council held a special meeting on Thursday (August 21). They approved a 28E agreement with the City of Belmond and with the City of Eagle Grove for law enforcement services.
