The South Hardin volleyball team, with a new season about to begin, will be under new leadership from Head Coach Cindy Holmes.
“It’s been really great getting back into coaching. Just the connection. I really enjoy working with the coaching staff. We all bring a unique skill set that just really combines great together. We’re in it for the right reasons, we really care about the kids,” says Holmes. “The seniors walked in and we as coaches walked in all like-minded with unity. Everyone has just really been responding with that. I think that’s a really strong backbone for any team, but this year’s team has really responded to it.”
Holmes brings 28 years of coaching experience to the role with time between Hubbard-Radcliffe, Roland-Story and Ames. Before joining the Tiger program, she took a break from the sideline to work with 4 HIM Coaching is Coaching, which provides the area with habit finder, character & leadership, program development and professional development support. “I found out that I had a lot left that I would like to do with a high school program. I absolutely love program building. Helping these young athletes understand that they have a lot to offer the world, by just simply following their passions because that’s usually in alignment with their skillset.”
The Tigers went 26-9 last season and earned a berth to the Class 2A State tournament. After graduating five everyday starters, the Tigers will look to build around top returning attacker Emma Minteer (212 kills last season), top returning defender Taya Hollingsworth (117 digs last season) and returning assist leader Kiersten Winter (52 assists last season).
South Hardin will host Hardin County rival Iowa Falls-Alden in their season opener Tuesday on 99 The Wave.
