High school juniors and seniors have a chance to see state government in action in the next legislative session, according to House Speaker Pat Grassley’s latest newsletter. Grassley, a Republican from Butler County who represents District 57 in Des Moines, says applications are now open for the 2026 Iowa Legislative Page Program. The program places students in full-time roles at the State Capitol in Des Moines during the legislative session, working Monday through Thursday from January 12 through the end of the session.

Pages assist legislators, deliver messages, work in committee rooms, and gain a first-hand look at how laws are made. Grassley says the experience builds responsibility, professionalism and confidentiality, skills that prepare students for future academic and career demands. Applicants must be at least 16 years old by January 2, 2026. Grassley noted a Waverly student served as a House page in 2025 and he encourages more local students to apply through the Iowa Legislature’s website.
