The #5 (2A) Grundy Center volleyball team will host a loaded quad to begin the season Tuesday. AGWSR, #14 (2A) Hudson and Waverly-Shell Rock will also attend.
Coming off last year’s 25-16 season which ended one match short of a state tournament appearance, the Spartans will begin a heavy home schedule.
“We have so many home matches this year,” Head Coach Lori Willis says. “We’re just like completely blown away, so we’re super excited about that. But you know we’re going to go through the gauntlet, that’s fine. That makes us better. Iron sharpens iron. I’m just looking forward to getting out there and competing.”
AGWSR will begin its season under first-year head coach Kayla Miller, and will look to bounce back from a 14-26 season last year. They lost two starters, but will need to make up for the graduation of four-year setter Trevyn Smith. Elise Olson and Brylea Metzgar recorded just less than two kills per set last year and are back for their senior seasons.
Hudson is coming off a 27-11 season, and will need to make up for the graduation of four starters. Waverly-Shell Rock returns three starters from last year’s 20-23 team.
The quad will start at 5:30 p.m.
