Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo has expanded its Regional Transportation Training Center. They’ve added more classrooms, truck bays, and simulator labs – and they’re inviting the community to come check it out. Hawkeye will host an open house on Thursday (Aug. 28), from 4 to 6 p.m.
The 7,456-square-foot addition includes drive-through truck bays, classrooms and simulator labs. The center, which opened in 2012, also features a driving range with a 26-foot-wide road.
The expansion is designed to meet a growing demand for drivers. Iowa Workforce Development estimates the state will need 10,000 new commercial drivers each year through 2032. College officials say the project increases training capacity by 25 percent.
