The Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary’s mum sale is Wednesday, September 3rd with 100% of proceeds going toward the auxiliary’s scholarship fund.
The auxiliary was established in 1956 and president, Liz Carr, tells RadioOnTheGo News the auxiliary has over 100 current members who donate time, talents and money to assist the hospital in various ways.
“Our main mission is to provide things that the hospital or the wellness center needs. Any employee of the hospital that wants to take a class or further their education can apply for one of our scholarships and then we will grant them their scholarship. We’ve bought warming blankets for people that come out of surgery, different equipment that the hospital needs. We also purchase things for the wellness center. If they have a certain need, we vote on it, but we normally try to honor every request we can. And then we give scholarships to usually four or five Franklin County (high school) seniors, that are going into the medical field; either RN, physical therapist, anything medically related.”
The auxiliary is a nonprofit organization and Carr says membership is open to anyone who is interested in promoting and improving the services of FGH.
“So we really would encourage people to join even if they don’t want to be an active, involved member. Just your $20 helps us fund our scholarships. And we feel it’s so important that we are able to keep a relevant hospital and a medical facility in Hampton, that that’s our goal, to try to raise as much money as we can to entice people to make the facilities as nice as possible. So members can be people who work in the gift shop. We have members who take care of the gardens, members who bake cakes, members who play the piano and sing for the nursing home residents, or we have members who just pay their $20 a year dues and call it good.”
The Franklin General Hospital Auxiliary’s mum sale is Wednesday, September 3rd on the south lawn of the Franklin Wellness Center. The sale runs from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. or until gone. In case of inclement weather, the sale will be inside the wellness center.
