Two sisters from New Hartford are making a difference for their community’s emergency services. Twelve-year-old Vivian Coates and her 10-year-old sister, Lillian, have been raising money to help New Hartford Ambulance purchase a new vehicle.
The girls have been selling baked goods and vegetables from their garden at the New Hartford Farmers Market. Their mother, Kari Coates who serves as the Butler County EMS Coordinator, says the town’s current ambulance is a 2002 model, purchased secondhand, and the backup is even older.
So far, mom says Vivian and Lillian have raised nearly $400, with a goal of reaching at least $500 by the ambulance crew’s Sept. 22 meeting. Community members can support the effort by visiting the market to pick up some goodies and leave a donation. The New Hartford Farmers Market is open on Tuesday evenings.
