POET, the South Dakota-based biofuels company that owns facilities in Iowa Falls and Shell Rock, is expanding with the purchase of a bioethanol plant in northwestern Tennessee. The acquisition will add 120 million gallons of annual production, bringing POET’s total to 35 bioprocessing facilities across nine states, with a combined annual capacity of 3.1 billion gallons. The deal is expected to close in the third quarter of 2025.

Locally, the Iowa Falls plant produces about 112 million gallons of bioethanol each year, while Shell Rock produces roughly 131 million gallons, along with co-products such as animal feed ingredients and corn oil. POET leaders say the expansion strengthens the company’s nationwide network and supports rural communities, farmers, and the growing market for American-made renewable fuels.
