The Hampton-Dumont-CAL football team will look to make an early statement in return to Class 2A when they kick off the season with a visit to Osage for the first time since 2016. The game will air on 104.9 KLMJ.
HD-CAL went 3-6 last season in Class 3A and this season returns to 2A for the first time since 2020. Ryder Strother returns to captain the Bulldog offense. He had 412 yards passing yards, 279 rushing yards and eight touchdowns last season. Top offensive targets returning include Brody Strother on the ground/through the air and Brady Harr through the air. Aaden Keehn returns as the Bulldogs leading tackler with 32 last season. Head Coach Cole Miller discusses ball security and boxing in the Green Devils.
“We have to control the football, take good care of it, control the line of scrimmage, be able to run the ball and get the ball in the perimeter earlier,” says Miller. “Stopping their quarterback is going to be a huge deal for us too. Making sure we do what we got to do to keep them in the box, keep them from getting loose, trying to make him beat us with his arm and not his legs. He’s a very dynamic runner from what I’ve seen and what I’ve been told. Those will be the big keys and takeaways. Then if we can force a couple of turnovers on the defensive side of the ball, that always helps as well.”
Osage went 6-4 last season in 2A and reached the playoffs. Quarterback Quinn Street returns to lead the offense. He led the team with 739 passing yards, 312 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. The Green Devils also return all three 200+ yard receivers – Brock Trees, Gavin Muller and Sevryn Dodd. Trees returns to wreak havoc defensively after leading the team with 71 tackles.
The Bulldogs will be on the hunt for their first win over the Green Devils since 2015.
Pregame coverage on 104.9 KLMJ will begin at 6:45 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7:30 p.m. in Osage.
