Drivers across northern Iowa dealt with patchy dense fog early Saturday morning, with visibility dropping to under a mile in some areas. The National Weather Service advised motorists to use low-beam headlights and allow extra time on the roads. The fog was expected to lift by mid-morning.
Looking ahead, forecasters say scattered showers and non-severe thunderstorms are possible later today and into Sunday, mainly over western Iowa. No severe weather is expected at this time.
Meanwhile, the Iowa Environmental Mesonet reports that August temperatures in Ames have run the full range of normal summer conditions, but this weekend is closing on the cooler side. Highs are expected to stay below the August average of 86 degrees, with lows in the 60s, making for a stretch of pleasant late summer weather.
