Belmond-Klemme Volleyball Strives for Consistency

bk-3

The Belmond-Klemme volleyball team began their 2025 season on Thursday falling in three sets to Bishop Garrigan. After the graduation of five everyday players, the Broncos are developing new role players to continue the climb as a contender in the Top of Iowa West. Head Coach Leigh Faaborg on the necessity for consistency.

“We have a lot of young kids that are filling big roles. They play hard defense and they get good touches. We have to consistently do that,” says Faaborg. “We can’t have a match on and a match off at the varsity level. We have to learn to play consistently to minimize runs. That’s been our message through the preseason and that’ll kind of be our focus.”

Nevi McMurray returns with the most kills on the team with 54 and digs with 172 last season. Jordyn Muhlenbruch returns to take on a new role as the full-time setter and recorded 25 assists last season. Faaborg on what they bring to the court and a newcomer that is helping connect the team.

“Nevi McMurray last year played all the way around for us on the outside. She does a really nice job executing and being a good team leader. We also have Jordan Muhlenbruch as a returner, she played right side front row for us last year. She’ll be in the setting role this year. She’s done a really great job of embracing that. It’s a tough position to play. We’re proud of the work that she’s put in, how hard she’s working to kind of run an offense and fill some big shoes from last year. A newcomer to the court this year, Kaylen Morris, she’s been playing in our libero position in preseason and has done a nice job. That is also a new position for her. She really does a nice job of kind of running communication on the court, being a loud, prominent voice. Then challenging our other kids to really embrace communication in all their roles.”

The Broncos (0-1) will travel to Lake Mills on Tuesday.
