The Hampton-Dumont-CAL cross country teams will compete at an invitational at Webster City Tuesday. Belmond-Klemme and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will also compete, rounding out local participants.

The Bulldogs will look to improve upon their team performances at last week’s season opener at Maynes Grove, where the boys placed ninth and the girls placed 11th. In the girls race, MacKenzy Valley led the team with a 16th place finish in 22:45. In the boys race, Arnold Guevara placed 24th in 20:08 and William Vosburg was 31st in 20:26. Head Coach Traci Moorehead says having one meet per week is a strategic way to schedule the early portion of the season.

“It’s nice to start one per week just to get our legs underneath us,” Moorehead says. “Everyone has a 5k time now, so we’ll work to improve that. Maynes Grove being a little bit more of a difficult course, I anticipate many of the runners running a little bit better time, even though the distance is the same. The Webster City course is a lot flatter than what we just ran. So yeah, so we’re excited to see what the kids can do. And uh I always tell them they put more pressure on themselves than I put on them. So just always go do your best and see what we can do.”

It’ll start at 5:00 p.m. at Links Public Golf Course.
