Belmond-Klemme hosting Newman Catholic for home and district opener Friday

The Belmond-Klemme football team will host Newman Catholic in their home opener Friday, which’ll also be the first district game.

The Broncos will look to bounce back from last week’s 44-30 loss at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, where they were competitive in the second half after trailing 30-8 at halftime. However, the passing game was on point with Brody Heifner throwing for 403 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions on 33/50 passing.

The Knights are coming off a 28-27 home loss to Central Springs last week, where they relied heavily on the passing game. Bronco coach Josh Faaborg says it’ll be a much different gameplan defensively than last week; Clarion-Goldfield-Dows attempted only four passes with no completions.

“We had a tight one with them last year, came down to the last minute or so,” Faaborg says. “So we’ve had this one circled on our calendars. It’s a game we want to go redeem ourselves in. Our kids are excited about it. Our coaches are excited about it. I think our entire community is excited to have a home game here, get them here on our turf. But what a polar opposite matchup from week one. They spread it out, have a very dynamic offense, have some really good athletes on the field.”

The Knights won 30-25 last year. It’ll start at 7:00 p.m.
