The Hampton-Dumont-CAL volleyball team will play its second match of the season and open conference play Thursday at St. Edmond. It’ll air on 99 The Wave.

The Bulldogs (0-1) are coming off a close 3-2 loss to West Fork last week, where they battled through highs and lows but fell just short. Head Coach Sarah Miller says a few key aspects of their game made big differences.

“Communication has to be better,” Miller says. “We’ve got to make sure that we’re playing as a unit, and honestly, we have a lot of spots open right now. Some are going to be on, some are going be off. We just have to hold that consistency, and I think the girls have to just keep on battling in practice and just show who wants to be out there, which of the lineup works best, which one’s the most powerful. We’ve got to make sure that our serve receives, the ones that are weak, we’ve got to fix those and do we need to change around some people? Can I throw in some different ideas? I think it just gives us some really good time just to be reflective and try some different things out and keep putting things together so that we’re ready to compete.”

Madison Heilskov recorded 18 kills in the match, and her 3.6 kills per set leads the North Central Conference.

St. Edmond (2-3) is coming off a weekend tournament where they earned wins over Bishop Garrigan and Pocahontas Area. Freshman Eden Horn has burst onto the scene, leading the team with 2.3 kills per set.

Coverage will start at 6:45 p.m., followed by the first serve at 7:00.
