At this week’s Rockwell City Council meeting, Michelle Bowden of Absolute Waste Removal addressed the council regarding the city’s waste services. Bowden, who has worked with Rockwell for nine of the 15 years the city has contracted with AWR, was thanked for the company’s service. Councilmember Brian Koob emphasized that the upcoming service change to Waste Management is unrelated to performance by AWR. The change to Waste Management is effective October 1st.
Council also opened discussion on sidewalk repairs and improvements. Plans will begin with major streets, and the city will seek input from residents. The council will work with NIACOG to develop an implementation strategy.
Several infrastructure and budget items were approved, including a $9,500 engineering study for the Third Street bridge and a $22,700 smoke testing project for the city’s water and wastewater systems. The city will work with Veenstra & Kimm Inc. on the two items.
Additionally, a revised zoning fee schedule was adopted, and a hazardous waste pickup is scheduled for Monday, September 22nd, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.
