Franklin Rural Electric Cooperative is honoring two local leaders through the statewide Shine the Light program. James Abbas of Ackley and Roger Kregel of Dumont were recently recognized for making a positive difference in their communities.

Abbas, an agriculture and FFA teacher at AGWSR, encourages his students to give back through projects like planting flowers in Ackley, helping with Lions Club events, highway clean-up, and volunteering at the Franklin County Fair. He also leads a World Hunger Day project where students farm a donated plot to support hunger relief efforts. In his honor, Franklin REC donated to the AGWSR FFA chapter.

Kregel was recognized for his work with Revitalize Dumont, a nonprofit focused on restoring the town’s former school building and transforming it into a community space. Franklin REC made a donation to support the project, which has helped rally volunteers and renew community pride.

You can read more about both honorees on Franklin REC’s website at franklinrec.coop.
