The #9 (2A) Aplington-Parkersburg volleyball team couldn’t find the offense to contend with #1 (2A) Denver on the road Tuesday, falling 3-0 in a match that aired on 99 The Wave and RadioOnTheGo on YouTube. The Falcons fell 25-13, 25-17, 25-15.

The Falcons went down by as many as 20-4 in a Set 1 that featured numerous attack errors, keeping them from contending. They cleaned up some of the attacks and kept within striking distance throughout Set 2, though the Cyclones used strong serving and versatile attacks to pull away. While the Falcons maintained the intensity in Set 3, it wasn’t enough to overcome Denver’s firepower.

“Denver is definitely number one for a reason in our class,” Head Coach Candace Kleespies says. “They’ve got a lot of weapons, and Johnson does a great job for them setting wise. No matter if they’re pulled out of system, she has them right back in it. We came out skirmish in the first set and we didn’t pass well and then we couldn’t use any of our hitters. I felt like it definitely got better the second and third set, and then we couldn’t find the court with our swing. But a lot to build off of. We did have some great positives, and so we’ve just gotta clean up the fundamentals of some of those things that we do need to clean up.”

The Falcons will return to action Saturday by hosting a tournament, where they could have a rematch with the Cyclones.
