The Belmond-Klemme and AGWSR football teams will battle for their first win when the programs meet in Class A District 2 action on Friday. The game will air on 99 The Wave.

Belmond-Klemme (0-2, 0-1 A2) enters off a frustrating 21-20 loss at home to Newman Catholic last week. The Broncos have relied on their passing game to power the offense with 556 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in the first two weeks. Brody Heifner has four passing and two rushing touchdowns to lead the team. Braden Dougherty has been a top target through the air with 287 receiving yards. Head Coach Josh Faaborg describes the team’s mindset in pursuing their first win.

“It’s focusing on us, knowing and understanding what we need to do to be successful. Not being a reactive football team, we’ve got to be proactive. We need to go do the things that we know we’re capable of, do them really well, and then repeat it over and over,” says Faaborg. “Mindset’s a big conversation this week. It really is a big conversation every single week. The conversation around what does that mindset look like, what things do we need to clean up, is a little bit different.”

AGWSR (0-2, 0-1 A2) fell 34-0 at #1 (A) (Radio Iowa Poll) West Hancock last week. The Cougars will look to scratch across their first score and build from there after facing lockdown defenses in their first two games. Landen Dennis has 90 passing yards and Lane Rose has 62 receiving yards to lead the team. The Cougars will look to re-establish running lanes after being held to 13 rushing yards entering Week 3. Head Coach James Koop on a pivotal district matchup.

“It was only five points last year. It was a tough game, a close game and could have gone either way. We should be more competitive in this game. We’ve got to take advantage of that, so by the end of the night we’re 1-2 on the season,” says Koop. “Belmond-Klemme is coming into this game with a good program, a good team and really good athletes. They’re looking at it the same way, we need to be 1-1 in the district and 1-2 overall. We’re both 0-2 going into this game, so there’s a lot riding on it.”

B-K won last year’s meeting 26-21 in Ackley in non-district action.

Pregame coverage will begin at 6:15 p.m. followed by the kickoff at 7:00 p.m. in Ackley.
