
Thursday, Hampton Mayor Steve Birdsall signed a proclamation, declaring September 20th as American Kennel Club Responsible Dog Ownership Day in Hampton. The AKC established the day in 1884 to promote all aspects of responsible dog ownership, including proper veterinary care, safety around children, obedience training and licensing, which are essential to a happy and healthy bond between a dog and their owner.
The Hampton City Council approved the parade route for the Light up the Night Event on November 29th. The parade will start at the Hampton Aquatic Center at 5:30 p.m. and make its way to Band Shell Park along 1st St. NW.
In other business, resident Jeanne Fay spoke during public comment about Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, which is observed in September. She stated the council and mayor should consider an annual proclamation to commemorate it.
Mayor Birdsall also set Friday, October 31st from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. as trick-or-treat night in Hampton.
