OnTheGoMedia’s RadioOnTheGo Relay for Life Radiothon wrapped up Thursday (9/11/25), raising a total of $13,917. Donors had the option to contribute to the Franklin County Relay for Life, the Butler County Relay for Life, or make a general donation to the American Cancer Society. The annual event featured interviews with cancer survivors and community members, including Dave Heuberger, former President and CEO and now Chairman of the Board at First Bank Hampton.
Heuberger shared his very personal connection to the fight against cancer, being a survivor of prostate cancer, his wife passed away from ovarian cancer in 2021, and his son Drew lost a long battle with bone cancer earlier this year. Heuberger emphasized that support from family, friends, church, and the local community has been essential through these challenges.
“Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society does a lot of good with the money that is raised. It’s used for a lot of awareness. Early detection, it’s very important that people, men and women both, get in there and get your yearly checkups done, and early detection can make a big difference. And so they encourage that and they support that. And research, a lot of research going on all the time, as we all know, and some of the money that you’ll spend and donate will go for research. A lot, and I can speak to this — patient support and family support for the patients especially is a big deal. They help with things like gas, gas cards and motels and things like that. So, a lot of patient interaction with the American Cancer Society and I’ve seen that firsthand.”
Local sponsors provided matching funds, maximizing the impact of every contribution. The funds raised will support research, patient care, prevention programs, and advocacy, while celebrating survivors and supporting families affected by cancer in the community.
