As part of a fall sweep, Hampton officials are reminding residents to keep their yards and properties maintained. On Monday (9/15/25), Hampton Police logged 29 calls for nuisance or junk ordinance violations.

Public Works Director Doug Tarr says notices are simply reminders to address violations, not tickets. “If ignored, they could lead to fines and court dates,” Tarr said. He encourages residents to remove trash, debris, old appliances, and store vehicles or trailers properly. Regular yard upkeep, including trimming weeds and trees around homes and sidewalks, can prevent violations.

Police Chief Mark Morrison says the fall sweep helps address complaints before colder weather and shorter days arrive. Notices give property owners five days to correct issues; unaddressed violations can result in a $150 municipal infraction. He says nuisance calls happen year-round but slow in winter.

Officials say proactive maintenance helps keep Hampton neighborhoods safe, clean, and welcoming.
