North central Iowa experienced an unusually warm weekend, with highs reaching 95 degrees in Waterloo on Saturday and 93 on Sunday — the warmest two-day stretch so far this year. Temperatures remain above average for mid-September, with more warm days expected through much of this week.
The National Weather Service says widespread rain and thunderstorms are possible mid to late this week, continuing into the weekend. Forecasters say that while flooding isn’t expected, local rainfall totals could be heavy in spots.
