The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football team ended non-district play last week with a 24-16 homecoming win over Estherville Lincoln Central.
District play will open on the road for the Cowboys as they travel to Manly to take on Central Springs, a team they have not played since 2011. The matchup is one of three new opponents created by this year’s district realignment. Head Coach Caleb Vogel notes that, with district play beginning, the record books essentially reset.
“It’s an O and O record right now. These are the games that count and we just gotta make them count every single day at practice.”
The road trip to play Central Springs is the longest of the year for the Cowboys. With more than an hour drive, Vogel says staying focused will be important.
“We just gotta treat it like any other road game, just gonna go up there and take care of business. That’s our main goal, obviously, is to win the game. We just gotta keep our head on straight on the bus ride and when we get there be ready to play and do our stuff.”
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday at Central Springs High School in Manly.
